Shields Medical Director of Radiation Oncology Services, H. Joseph Barthold, M.D. is an accomplished specialist in radiation oncology, and oversees the Shields Radiation Oncology centers in partnership with participating hospital and physician providers.
Targeting radiation therapy as accurately as possible to cancerous cells is critically important to patients. Shields Radiation Oncology centers provide Image Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT) and Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT), as well as 4-D CT, Cone Beam and Respiratory Gating. These are among the arsenal of leading edge technologies utilized by all our Radiation Oncology centers. These improvements minimize challenges to physicians and discomfort to patients as doctors are better able to target and treat cancerous cells without exposing healthy tissue to the damaging affects of radiation.
