CT Contraindications
CT has been shown to be a safe and cost-effective imaging tool for a wide range of clinical issues. Though CT uses radiation to generate its diagnostic images, the medical benefits far outweigh the exposure risks. In fact, the exposure doses from medical imaging are so much lower than those that have clearly been linked to cancer that many scientists believe any attempts to site CT scanning as an actual cause of cancer, can only be done so in theory and have never actually been proven.
• Women should always inform their doctor or x-ray technologist if there is any possibility that they are pregnant.
• Nursing mothers should wait 24 hours after contrast injection before resuming breastfeeding.
• You will be asked numerous screening questions before your exam to help us determine whether or not you are at high risk for any type of allergic reaction to the iodinated contrast. The risk of serious allergic reaction to iodine-containing contrast material is rare, and our radiology department is well equipped to deal with them.
