10M gift paves way for new cancer center

When James and Ruth Clark were mulling over a donation to Cape Cod Healthcare four years ago, he remembered the stress of driving an hour or more to Boston for cancer treatments — his own and his wife's.

Cancer patients on the Upper Cape no longer need to make that long trip to Boston or to Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis.

Last week, thanks to a $10 million donation from the Clarks, Cape Cod Healthcare Cancer Services and the Shields Health Care Group opened the first phase of the 15,000-square-foot Clark Cancer Center at Falmouth Hospital.

The Clarks' donation was the largest single donation ever to Cape Cod Healthcare. The cancer center also received a $1 million contribution from the Falmouth Hospital Auxiliary, the largest donation the group has ever made.
